The British Council has been teaching English in Portugal for more than
sixty years. In addition to teaching on our courses, our staff contribute
considerably to the profession in many other ways.

We collaborate with the Ministry of Education and public institutions in Portugal to produce teaching and training programmes, and our magazine for Teachers of English - The Journal - is distributed by the Ministry to primary and secondary teachers all over the country. In our eleven teaching centres there are over a hundred qualified and experienced native-speaker teachers. A typical teacher will have both a university degree and a teaching qualification in English Language Teaching, as well as several years' teaching experience in Portugal and other countries. Many of our teachers write for international journals on English Language Teaching and speak about teaching methodology at national and international congresses. |
